Pre/post-backup commands allow customizing both the logic and the flow of every backup. These can be configured in the More Options section of Backup Settings window.

It will have all scheduling decisions logged. It is possible to execute arbitrary commands at the very start and at the very end of a backup run. That's the central program log, not the one for the job. If the above doesn't apply and if you are OK with sharing the log, please forward me a copy of %LocalAppData%\Bvckup2\bvckup2.log.

To get to settings.ini - right-click on the backup entry, select "Open Folder > Configuration and Logging". If it's 1, then the on-arrival runs are enabled. You can check if you have it enabled (somehow) by opening settings.ini for the job and looking at the following entry:īy default it's 0, which is Off. There _is_ an option for running backup when its drive is plugged in, but it's not configurable from the UI at the moment. However, despite the backup job to the external drive set to run only on Fridays as a certain time, when I connected the external drive to the computer Bvckup immediately started to run the backup job even though it wasn't the scheduled time, nor have I missed the previous scheduled run. In case a backup run is needed in the interim, one can initiate it manually, which I think is much safer than having to remember to pause the backup job first before connecting the external drive. I was wondering if there's a way to get Bvckup to run the backup only at the scheduled time/after missing a scheduled run and not every time the external drive is connected, Obviously ,one can pause the backup jobs before plugging the external drive in but that's one more thing to remember and easy enough to forget. This could be potentially detrimental because if something is wrong with a copy on the main drive, when trying to restore from an external drive Bvckup attempts to overwrite the backed up data even outside the scheduled time for this backup. There was something wrong with the data on the main drive and I wanted to restore the copy stored on the external drive. I set Bvckup to track the device based on its fingerprint and come the scheduled time I plug the drive in, wait for the backup to complete, and disconnect it until the next scheduled backup.Ī couple of days ago I ran into the following scenario. Once a week, I run a backup job to an external drive that is otherwise disconnected from the computer.
